Checkered Corner

Came across this OLD photo today reminding me how I started Checkered Corner in the corner of our basement workshop.  Back then in early 90s stencils were popular and I used a roller checkered stencil with green paint over the concrete blocks in one corner.  Thus the business name!

My adventures creating started with craft shows and mult-media wood & metal.  Seasonal items like garden planters, snowmen and wall art — many with checker boards.  I moved onto repurposing as I can’t bear to see old things discarded or scrap wood go to a burn pile.  It’s been fun to rekindle some of my old passions throughout the years for texture & color and bringing lost objects back to life and give them a . . .

F U N c t i o n

It’s been such a great adventure for me to tap into creativity.  This year marks 32 years that I’ve been in business.  Almost 20 of those years have been in the occasional market realm.  Although Checkered Corner has been open in multi-vendor shops over the years, MY FAVORITE years have always been in this business model being open once a month.  I love setting the stage for a unique shopping experience every month, changing up theme & color.  My slogan for years has been WHERE UNIQUE IS ORDINARY.  It’s my goal when you walk in to think WOW I would’ve never thought of that.
